A weighty amulet of equal parts providence and intention, The River is a reminder that the forces at play are larger than we could ever be, and that they have the power to carry us along the path.  The choice to surrender is often the only thing necessary.

The River's main character is a sculpture of river rock serving as a mooring. Suspended from a skein of raw, hand dyed repurposed sari silk, it's a formidable presence amongst the watery flow. 

At 60" long, this piece can be fashioned into endless forms: looped around once as a long pendant or belt, or wrapped multiple times into a choker, bracelet, anklet, or even a body harness.

Forces of water are simple, but mighty. Out of the continuous flow, this porous, inky rock has been formed by currents over time, yielding a surface of receptacles that can be used to diffuse a fragrant oil throughout the day.  This rock is found object that I've further rendered by hand into a sculptural element.

This piece was inspired by the river and flow itself, but more specifically it's inspired by a particular part of the story of plane crash and Amazon jungle survivor Julianne Koepcke.  In the jungle, exhausted after navigating the dangers of the jungle, she smartly rationed her dwindling energy reserves by allowing the river to carry her in lieu of traveling on foot.  As she witnessed crocodiles diving underneath her, knowing that extreme danger surrounded her, she survived by allowing herself to be carried by something greater than her.  The  metaphor of that very true story drives the point home better than I ever could.

Surrender to something bigger than self will ultimately get us where we need to be.
