IX. The Disruptor

Call her the black sheep, the black swan, the Cassandra.  Call her whatever you want, but know that her very existence is a challenge to the status quo.

This is The Disruptor, a collar necklace intentionally undone in appearance, holding itself in all its parts together with strands of hand-knotted, ink black silk.

The base of this necklace is composed mostly of kiwi jasper, peppered with precious fragments yielded from the earth. Held close to its center is three of my most iridescent, otherworldly vintage gray pearls, two ocean jasper nodules, a chalcedony drop.  Jutting out from the center is an insistent trio:  an exclamation point of an auger shell, a rhodochrosite slab, a naturally glossy cowrie shell.  The shells I sourced in Costa Rica, a trip with a lore all its own.  But that's a whole different tangent.

The purpose here is not just to honor the dissident, but to also offer comfort around that which one cannot control in their periphery.  In short, letting go of the responses, judgments, and reactions of others while on the path of greater personal freedom, truth, and expression.

We can't control the outcome, but we can allow ourselves ease while we  hold fast to our center.

Measurements:  16.5" total circumference, longest drop (auger shell) 1.75"
