Fluorite
"The Genius Stone" AKA "The Stone of Discernment"
CC's Version: "The Neurospicy Human's Best Friend"
I. First Contact (Personal Record)
I am the proud owner of a neurodivergent, very ADHD brain. It can be my superpower, but when too many signals are incoming, the constant "channel changing" can be highly frustrating.
It sounds like this: "I should bring the dog to the vet. But now I'm a bad mom because I don't know if my kids' shots are up to date! Are my shots up to date? Does that matter even when I haven't done yoga in a week? I could do that later. But I have to go to Costco!!!"
Do you know how well this thinking translates into action? In the words of a well known pop oracle, "not well, bitch".
In my experience, Fluorite does not silence this chatter, it just turns it into one, coherent voice that brings up the next thing as it becomes the next thing. It disperses order and coherence to it and makes it manageable. One thing at a time, effortlessly.
When I work with fluorite, that internal chatter gets funneled into one stream, in order, as it needs to be addressed.
This stone supports what I've come to know as the Next Right Thing Effect: the ability to identify and then maintain energy and attention on which action is, well, the Next Right Thing. While this typically takes a good amount of effort and conscious redirection, with fluorite the effortlessness is shockingly noticeable.
The natural outcome of effective action and follow-through comes real, authentic self esteem. The quantifiable kind. Movement is made possible by flow and babe, fluorite is nothing if not theee straight up boss agent of flow.
II. The Principle of Flow (Etymology, function, and the Law of Similarities)
The term "fluorite' itself is derived from the Latin term fluere, "to flow".
Fluorite has been used as a flux in metalworking from the time of ancient Rome through today. A flux is an agent that lowers the melting point of metals, facilitating transformation, softening a material that might have once been a bit unforgiving. Flow is quite literally the most established utilitarian, unglamorous, non-woo function of fluorite. It's its signature.
The term "fluorescence" was gleaned from the word "fluorite", as certain specimens visibly emit light under ultraviolet exposure. Energy enters, reorganizes, and literally, emits a coherent refraction of light itself.
Under the Law of Similarities, the long-standing principle in folk magic, herbalism, and early anthropology that suggests matter declares its usefulness through its form, these properties are highly relevant.
Fluorite does not absorb and then nuke chaos or mental clutter. If you see the mind and/or energy centers as a system, fluorite behaves less like a lullaby and more like a functional solvent for cognitive friction.
III. Structure & Intelligence
Here's where the discernment bit really takes center stage. Fluorite crystallizes in a cubic system, one of the most orderly and symmetrical structures found in minerals. Cubes are architecture, actual building blocks with which to construct and physically make real. And yes, there's that Law of Similarities again. Think: right angles, structural integrity, and internal coherence made visible.
The geometry of fluorite is highly aligned with its cognitive effects:
- sorting
- prioritization
- pattern recognition
- discernment
- clarity
- coherent vision
- physical manifestation
This is why fluorite has long been termed "The Genius Stone". It's not because it adds to the information; it's because it improves the flow of the existing information.

Our ancestors have used fluorite ritualistically for thousands of years.
- Ancient Egyptians carved fluorite into scarabs and statuettes of deities, indicating its association with order, protection, and divine intelligence.
- Chinese artisans used fluorite for carvings and ornamental objects, valuing its clarity and structural beauty.
- In Sanskrit alchemical literature (early second millennium CE), a mineral called vaikrānta (वैक्रान्तः) is widely believed to refer to fluorite, associated with transformation and subtle power
-
In Rome, Pliny the Elder wrote about fluorite (myrrhine), discussing its beauty and value: how it was prized for its depth, inner color, and optical complexity, and how it was considered the kind of luxury that signified contemplative, discerning taste over ostentatious wealth signaling.
- Fluorite beads and carvings have been unearthed from Mississippian Mound Builder sites (c. 900–1650 CE), suggesting its use among Indigenous North American cultures for utilitarian (earplugs!), adornment, and possibly ceremonial or symbolic purposes.
Across cultures, fluorite appears where intelligence, order, and sacred craftsmanship intersect.
V. TLDR; Functional Properties
- Mental focus
- Cognitive clarity
- Meditation
- Integration
- Auric field cleanup, clearing low-level energetic residue
- Order
- Stability
- Precision in decision making
- Self Confidence and Self Worth (a natural outcome of effective flow)
- Efficient absorption and synthesis of information
- Motion without fragmentation
VI. Color Intelligence
Same principles, nuanced expressions:
-
Green Fluorite
Harmonizes heart and mind. Helps emotional data move cleanly into thought without distortion. Heart chakra centered. -
Purple Fluorite
Tunes perception toward higher-order patterning. Often associated with intuition, insight, and expanded awareness. Crown chakra centered. -
Clear or Colorless Fluorite
Highly activating for perception and cognition. Traditionally associated with the third eye and heightened intuitive processing. -
All colors retain fluorite’s core function: flow through structure.
